Any town office can issue a license since you are both out of state residents. Just have several forms of ID. If this is a second marriage for either of you a certified copy of a death certificate or divorce decree will be required.

Very nicely said, Ted. Though I have the blessing of still having both my wonderful parents alive, I know the feeling of wanting to call home. I guess because more often than not lately I have been on the other side of the world from them--and even our children. There's nothing like that primal connection...or the comfort of just letting down all the masks and being able to be yourself while relaxing at home with family.

I count it an honor and privilege that I knew your folks and were blessed by them and their friendship and generosity. Your reflections will one day, no doubt, be more completely mine as well. And in the meantime, I'll try my best not to take the moments I have with them (like last night & tomorrow, along with my brother Skip) lightly or for granted. Thanks for the inspiration. Your friend from way back--wes

I have to say that I agree with you completely. I believe that our country is based on liberty and if we are at a place in time that we give up some or all of our liberty for the potential and often misplaced security from so called terrorists then we are not where we need to be. My view is that the chances of my becoming a victim of a terrorist is less than 1/100,000 in my whole lifetime, but my liberty being taking away affects me every day of my life. I'll risk the terrorists.

Hey Ted,

Nice blog on the memories of your Mom's favorite car and previous ones. I mostly remember (if my memory serves me right!) the 1976 Buick LeSabre and the rather wild rides we took in it a few times one summer. Seem to remember flying over that one bump on the Woolwich road at top speed to see how much air we could get...oh my! Good times way back when that we survived only by the grace of God.

I enjoyed reading this, Ted.....I remember the summer house also...but my memories go back even farther than this ..when your Grandmother and Grandfather had the house at Roy Carpenter's beach in Matunuck. I especially remember your grandmother, my Aunt Sarah....making the most wonderful blueberry muffins with fresh picked berries from the beach road. I can taste them now ! She was a wonderful cook !! And yes, the cigar reminded me of Uncle Lynnie (sp?) .... I remember the house here in Warwick ...always smelled of that cigar. Not in a bad way...in a comforting way.
Nice to share memories.
thanks !
cousin, Alyce

Don't you just love memories like that. So vivid and if you closed your eyes you are there. Always amazing that I can't remember every day in my life, but I remember the best ones and yeah sometimes the sad ones. Thanks for sharing a great story.

Isn't the whole idea of social networking and the internet itself a way to not feel isolated? Cell phones, twitter, and now skype (which I think is a stalkers dream come true) is a way to keep in contact with the world. Do you think humanity is becoming too dependent on techonology? What if the world had no power? Where would we be then as a society? We would be forced to reconnect by way of face to face instead of facebook to facebook. You ever see the movie Surrogates with Bruce Willis? That movie really brings to light humans to technology that could possible happen in the future. We now hide behind a screen because we are safe and can be anyone we want to be without judgement. We hide behind a mask yet we are connected to others by way of the internet. Without the internet where would our society be? Can we unlearn life as we know it? I see your view clearly but your question just leads to more questions. As for your question, I would have to say one would have to move to a part of the world that is untouched by technology or become a quaker.
